INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON SOCIAL LCA -May 6 and 7, 2013 in Montreal

Following an initial workshop in Denmark in May of 2010, and a second in Montpellier (France) in 2011, we are pleased to carry on with these pioneering initiatives by organizing a third seminar in Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) at CIRAIG, in Montreal, on May 6 and 7, 2013. The event will be held at Amphithéâtre Bell, Polytechnique de Montréal, 2500 chemin Polytechique, Montreal (QC), Canada.

Once more, we would like to take act of the recent development in S-LCA. Since the publication of the Guidelines for Social Life Cycle Assessment of Products (UNEP-SETAC) in 2009, research efforts have been dedicated to the exploration of different approaches to S-LCA (methods based on the use of Performance reference points – PRPs –, on the use of impact path ways, attributional approach, consequential, etc.) and, in some cases, to applications. This seminar hopes to discuss the advantages and limits of these different approaches from a methodological development point of view (challenges in determining PRPs or in constructing impacts path ways, from example) as well as from a practical applications point of view (linkage to environmental LCA and data collection, for example). These approaches’ relevance for the transition towards sustainable modes of production and consumption, green economy or sustainable development will also be discussed. The role of S-LCA within this transition is in fact an unavoidable subject if further development of the method is to be justified. To this day, however, this reflection received little attention and several questions remain.

This seminar is primarily intended for scientific evaluation of social commodity chains in companies and researchers interested in social LCA.

We invite you to attend this seminar and contribute an abstract for oral presentation on the listed themes above.
